The Aba Elephants who had to play the most of Sunday’s clash with a man down following the red card given to Otor Ezekiel held their nerves to end their five year wait for another League crown after last wining in 2010.
With 69 points from 37 games, Enyimba are sure no team can catch up with them when the last set of games are played next weekend.
Before the latest acquisition, Enyimba won the title in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2010. They were African Champions in 2003 and 2004. No other Nigerian club side has won the prestigious CAF Champions League.
In Kano, Kano Pillars Football Club beat visiting Akwa United FC 1-0.
In the match played at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, first half play was entertaining and lively with both sides wasting many goal-scoring chances.
Kano Pillars’ captain, Rabiu Ali, however scored the only goal of the game in the 62nd minute, through a penalty kick, to increase his season’s league goals tally to eight.
Several efforts by the visitors to equalise were abortive, as Kano Pillars defended tenaciously.
Speaking after the game, Pillars’ coach, Baba Ganaru, commended his players for their brilliant performance.
“I am pleased with the performance of the boys in general, and I also commend Akwa United players for their performance,” he said.
