‘EFCC working to extradite Obanikoro, Mu’azu’

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is working with the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United Kingdom’s National Crimes Commission to extradite those who fled the country following ongoing investigations.

No allowance for officials on foreign medical treatment – FG

The Federal Government has said it would not provide funds to any government official to travel abroad for medical treatment unless the case cannot be handled in Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari made this known on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of the 56th Annual General Conference and delegates meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association held in Sokoto.

Buhari to World Bank: Facilitate speedy repatriation of stolen funds

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday urged the World Bank to do all within its powers to facilitate the speedy repatriation of stolen funds back to Nigeria.

He made the call during a meeting with the visiting Managing Director of the World Bank, Ms. Sri Mulyani Indrawati, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Ambode names Dolphine Park after late Braithwaite

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Wednesday named Dolphin Park after the late Dr Tunji Braithwaite, in recognition of his contributions to the political development of Nigeria.

Ambode, who was represented by his deputy, Dr Idiat Adebule, made this known at a special service of songs organised by the Braithwaite family in Lagos.

EFCC has swooped in on former Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke seizing some of her properties and an expensive wrist watch.

The anti-graft agency seized houses from the former Minister of Petroleum Resources and a very expensive wrist watch worth £600,000 as well as jewellery in gold and diamond.

Poor electricity supply: My children are also suffering the effects- Fashola

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, says his children are also facing the effects of the poor electricity supply presently being experienced in the country.

He said they suffer from heat rashes, sweat a lot and also wonder what exactly he, as the minister in charge of power, is doing about the electricity challenge.

‘Burnt documents’ reveal Saraki transferred over $3m to US account within 4 years

Embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki reportedly transferred up to $3.47 million to a foreign account during his tenure as governor of Kwara state.

According to Premium Times newspapers, the total sum was paid in 40 installments in four years with his credit card to the United States.

Saraki is on trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal for alleged non-declaration of assets, fraud.

Meanwhile, Senate President Bukola Saraki has said that his refusal to back a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket on the platform of the All Progressives Congress was the chief reason behind his ongoing trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

Saraki is currently standing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal on alleged false declaration of assets when he was the governor of Kwara State.

16 wounded as Turkish town hit by Syria rocket fire

Two rockets fired into Turkey from an area of Syria controlled by the Islamic State group hit the border town of Kilis on Sunday, leaving 16 people injured, media reports said.

One of the rockets hit the roof of a house in the Okcular neighbourhood while the other hit a backyard. Six of the wounded were Syrian.

Dangote pledges to assist FG to turnaround Nigeria’s economy

Foremost industrialist and richest man in Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has restated his commitment to assist the Federal Government in turning around and diversifying the country’s economy.

He said this in Lagos on Friday where he was honoured as “Man of the Year 2015’’ by The Guardian Newspapers Limited.

FAAC shares N299.7bn for March

The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) shared N299.7 billion among the three tiers of government as monthly allocation for March.

Addressing journalists at the end of the FAAC meeting in Abuja on Thursday, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mahmud Dutse, said FG got N109.113 billion, state governments received N55.344 billion and local governments got N42.66billion

Relief for states as Buhari suspends loans deduction

Workers who have gone on for many months without salaries got yesterday a piece of cheery news.

States’ loans repayment is to be deferred for the March revenue allocation to the states to allow them pay workers’ salaries, which have run into many months arrears.

But what the states pay to banks as a result of the Irrevocable Standing Orders (ISOs) will not be affected.

The United States President, Barack Obama, has sent a 42-member high-power delegation to Nigeria in support of the three priority areas of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

EFCC on Thursday, detained former Finance Minister, Nenadi Usman.

Usman was said to have reported at the Lagos office of the agency and was immediately taken into custody for interrogation.

The anti-graft agency picked up the Minister over her role in the billions withdrawn from CBN and paid into the accounts of six chieftains of PDP & d Goodluck Support Group.

‘Senate lacks authority to summon CCT chairman’

Outraged by Senate’s invitation to Justice Danladi Umar to appear before it, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), an NGO, says the Upper Chamber does not have such powers.

“The Senate does not have the power to summon any judge, including Justice Danladi Umar.

“If there is any credible allegation of corruption against Justice Umar, it ought to be dealt with by the JCN"

Distribution of exotic vehicles divides senators

The secret distribution of the first batch of the brand new 108 Sport Utility Vehicles to 36 senators last Thursday has started generating tension and ill-feelings among members of the upper chamber.

Investigations by our correspondent revealed that each senator from the 36 states had collected the keys to the Land Cruiser jeeps.

Housewife Who Attempted To Set Husband Ablaze Arrested

A housewife, Mrs Florence Njideka Chukwuma, has been arrested by the police at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, over an alleged attempt on the life of her husband, Chinedu, over a house property in Lagos.

Florence allegedly bought a gallon of petrol which she poured on Chinedu’s body, she then took a lighter to set him ablaze during a quarrel.

However, before she could achieve her goal, Chinedu jumped their fence and escaped, suffering injuries as a result of the attack.

She also allegedly destroyed some imported vehicles and house properties worth millions of naira and chased Chinedu out of their matrimonial home and took over the house built by Chinedu.

The incident happened at 48 Olukotun street, Ejigbo, where they reside before Chinedu was forced out

Don’t forgive rapists, NGO urges parents

An NGO, Jigawa Women Network for Access to Justice, on Sunday advised parents of rape victims not to forgive men who rape their children.

The Chairlady of the organisation, Hajiya Uwani Yunusa, gave the advice in Dutse on Sunday in an interview with newsmen.

She further urged parents of such victims to always report such incidents to the appropriate authorities in their respective communities.

El-Rufai shuts Govt House Clinic, redeploys staff to General Hospitals

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has closed the Government House Clinic and redeployed its medical personnel to public hospitals.

The drugs and equipment in the clinic have also been moved to the Yusuf Dansotho Hospital, Tudun Wada, Kaduna, while Government House staff have been directed to henceforth use the Dansotho Hospital for their medical needs.
