‘EFCC working to extradite Obanikoro, Mu’azu’

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is working with the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United Kingdom’s National Crimes Commission to extradite those who fled the country following ongoing investigations.

Arase orders arrest, prosecution of fuel black marketers

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, has ordered all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, FCT and State Command Commissioners of Police to arrest anybody found selling petrol and other petroleum products in plastic containers.

Arase gave the order in a statement issued by the Acting Commissioner of Police, ACP Olabisi Kolawole, the Force Public Relations Officer, on Tuesday

No allowance for officials on foreign medical treatment – FG

The Federal Government has said it would not provide funds to any government official to travel abroad for medical treatment unless the case cannot be handled in Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari made this known on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of the 56th Annual General Conference and delegates meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association held in Sokoto.

Buhari to World Bank: Facilitate speedy repatriation of stolen funds

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday urged the World Bank to do all within its powers to facilitate the speedy repatriation of stolen funds back to Nigeria.

SON impounds N10m tyres in Awka

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) on Wednesday impounded two truckloads of fake tyres worth N10 million from a warehouse in Awka.

The warehouse located at a residential building on Zik Ave., Awka, was discovered following intelligence reports, according to the organisation.

Ambode names Dolphine Park after late Braithwaite

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Wednesday named Dolphin Park after the late Dr Tunji Braithwaite, in recognition of his contributions to the political development of Nigeria.

The anti-graft agency seized houses from the former Minister of Petroleum Resources and a very expensive wrist watch worth £600,000 as well as jewellery in gold and diamond.

Poor electricity supply: My children are also suffering the effects- Fashola

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, says his children are also facing the effects of the poor electricity supply presently being experienced in the country.

Policeman’s wife stabs neighbour for laughing at her picture

The wife of a policeman attached to the state police command allegedly stabbed her neighbour, Mrs. Olaitan Ayobami.The unfortunate incident happened on Etunrere Street in the Ikorodu area of Lagos on Monday.

The cop’s wife, Mrs. Desola Ochoche, fled the residence afterwards, leaving Ayobami for dead. Ayobami was later rushed to a private hospital in the area.

Babangida urges patience with Buhari, refutes death report

Nigerian troops ambush insurgents trying ‘to link up with their wives and children’

Nigerian troops on Sunday morning, ambushed Boko Haram insurgents who were trying to link up with their ‘wives and children’ and other terrorists.

Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, Acting Director Army Public Relations, in a statement, said the insurgents were gunned down at Fulawani village.

According to the army spokesperson, the wives and children are despatched to wait for them close to Fulawani

‘Burnt documents’ reveal Saraki transferred over $3m to US account within 4 years

Embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki reportedly transferred up to $3.47 million to a foreign account during his tenure as governor of Kwara state.

According to Premium Times newspapers, the total sum was paid in 40 installments in four years with his credit card to the United States.

Saraki is on trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal for alleged non-declaration of assets, fraud.

Meanwhile, Senate President Bukola Saraki has said that his refusal to back a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket on the platform of the All Progressives Congress was the chief reason behind his ongoing trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

Saraki is currently standing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal on alleged false declaration of assets when he was the governor of Kwara State.

Train crushes 2 to death in llorin

A Kano to Lagos passenger train on Sunday crushed a commercial motorcyclist and his passenger to death in llorin.

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who witnessed the incident, reports that the tragedy occurred along Kangu-lle-Araromi road in the llorin West LGA

The train crushed the motorcyclist and his passenger, a middle-aged woman, when the motorcyclist tried to cross the railways

16 wounded as Turkish town hit by Syria rocket fire

Two rockets fired into Turkey from an area of Syria controlled by the Islamic State group hit the border town of Kilis on Sunday, leaving 16 people injured, media reports said.

One of the rockets hit the roof of a house in the Okcular neighbourhood while the other hit a backyard. Six of the wounded were Syrian.

Former News Agency of Nigeria MD loses battle to cancer


A former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Dr Nwabu Mgbemena, is dead.
Mgbemena, 71, died of cancer on April 22 in New Jersey, U.S.

His close associate Chief Tony Idigo confirmed the death on Sunday in a telephone interview with NAN.

Mgbemena was one of the pioneer editors of NAN, where he rose to serve as managing director for two terms from January, 1985 to January, 1994.

FG needs $700m to upgrade refineries – Kachikwu

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, said on Saturday that the Federal Government needed 700 million dollars to upgrade its refineries to produce at maximum capacities.

Kachikwu, who is also the Group Managing Director of NNPC, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen during the re-inauguration of the Port Harcourt/Bonny Crude Supply Line at the Port Harcourt Refining Company

Army averts another suicide attack in Borno

Buhari wants universities to expend resources prudently
