Buhari to World Bank: Facilitate speedy repatriation of stolen funds

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday urged the World Bank to do all within its powers to facilitate the speedy repatriation of stolen funds back to Nigeria.

He made the call during a meeting with the visiting Managing Director of the World Bank, Ms. Sri Mulyani Indrawati, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

16 wounded as Turkish town hit by Syria rocket fire

Two rockets fired into Turkey from an area of Syria controlled by the Islamic State group hit the border town of Kilis on Sunday, leaving 16 people injured, media reports said.

One of the rockets hit the roof of a house in the Okcular neighbourhood while the other hit a backyard. Six of the wounded were Syrian.

Obama’s team in Nigeria to back Buhari’s plans

The United States President, Barack Obama, has sent a 42-member high-power delegation to Nigeria in support of the three priority areas of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Leader of the delegation, Ms Samantha Power, said on Thursday in Abuja that the three areas – security, economy and governance remain the focus of the delegation’s visit to Nigeria.

US Singer, Prince Dies At 57

United States (US) popular singer, Prince is dead.
The Legendary Musician according to his publicist, died in his home in Minnesota at the age of 57.

Earlier Thursday, media report indicated that Police were called to a medical emergency at his Paisley Park estate, while investigation is still underway.

It would be recalled Prince became a global superstar in the 1980s.

Boko Haram: UK supports Nigeria with £32m

The United Kingdom has increased its humanitarian support and will be providing up to £32 million over the next three years to help deliver basic, life-saving assistance and protection to some of the estimated seven million people in need of humanitarian assistance due to insurgency in the North-East.

The funds will be channeled through the United Nations, the International Committee of Red Cross

Nigeria Loses Top Oil Producing Status To Angola

Nigeria has lost its Africa’s top oil producing status to Angola which saw its oil output rise to 1.78 million barrel-per-day in March.

This is the latest data from the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) which shows that Nigeria’s crude oil production fell by 67,000 barrels per day in March 2016.

ECOWAS Court rules in favour of Dasuki over illegal detention by government

Seeking to enforce his fundamental rights, former National Security Adviser (NSA) Col Sambo Dasuki yesterday got the approval of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Court in his suit against the Federal Government over his alleged unlawful arrest and detention without trial since December last year

The court ruled that it has jurisdiction to entertain the suit brought before it

FIFA writes NFF on Jos ruling, threatens to sanction Nigeria

World football ruling body, FIFA, yesterday threatened to sanction Nigeria if she breaches its statutes relating to dispute resolution.

In a letter entitled, “Verdict of the Jos High Court,” and addressed to Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, FIFA warned that the Jos Federal High Court decision, “if implemented, would likely be considered as an interference in FIFA rule "

Panama Office Raided by Authorities in El Salvador

Authorities in El Salvador have raided the offices of the panama law firm at the centre of a massive data leak.

The Attorney General's office says documents and computer equipment were seized from the mossack fonseca office.

The attorney general's office said the mossack fonseca sign had been removed a day earlier and quoted an employee as saying the firm was moving to another location

Panama Papers: Saraki is not Contemplating Resignation-Aide

President of the Senate Dr. Bukola Saraki has reacted to calls for his resignation following a growing series of corruption allegations.

His Special Adviser on Media, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said his boss was not contemplating resignation.

According to him: those calling for his resignation were being sponsored by politicians who had always opposed his leadership since he assumed office last June.

Panama papers: Pressure mounts on Saraki to resign

Senate President Bukola Saraki is under pressure to resign his position over the exposure of his alleged secret offshore assets by Panama Papers.

But he yesterday dismissed the calls for his resignation as the handiwork of forces against his leadership of the Senate,and a ploy by his detractors to circumvent the country’s judicial system.

Kerry visits Iraq for talks on war against IS

US Secretary of State John Kerry made an unannounced visit to Baghdad on Friday for talks with top Iraqi officials on the war against the Islamic State jihadist group.

Cameron admits he profited from father’s offshore fund

British Prime Minister David Cameron admitted Thursday he had held a £30,000 stake in an offshore fund set up by his father, after days of pressure following publication of the so-called Panama Papers.

Cameron sold the stake in the Bahamas-based trust in 2010, four months before he became prime minister, he said in an interview with television channel ITV.

UK’s Cameron slips in polls amid tax saga

David Cameron’s approval rating has slipped, with a tax row taking its toll on the prime minister, according to a poll published Friday.

I’m sorry, I’ll refund money, Zuma tells South Africans

South African President, Jacob Zuma, has welcomed the court judgement asking him to pay back part of the money spent on upgrading his Nkandla homestead.

Zuma said in a televised address to the nation on Friday that he was willing to pay back money spent on non-security related upgrades at the house.

The President, in the address, urged “all parties to respect the judgement and will abide by it.”

Vessel hijacked in N’Delta found in Togo, crew members missing

A Liberian flagged oil vessel hijacked off the shore of the Niger Delta last week is said to have been sighted at Lome, Togo.

The Director-General, Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, stated this at a press briefing at the company headquarters in Lagos on Friday.
